Two Detentions Following Heathrow Irritant Spray Attack

Placeholder Heathrow Airport scene
The assault caused the temporary shutdown of the Central Terminal Area tunnel and the Terminal 3 parking area.

An additional two individuals are now in custody related to a robbery at Heathrow Airport in which over twenty individuals sustained injuries by a substance believed to be an irritant spray, as stated by police.

A 24-year-old man, was taken into custody in the Lambeth area for suspected robbery and assault and a 23-year-old woman was detained for suspected conspiracy to commit robbery. Both individuals are still being held, the force said.

These detentions come after a probe into an assault at the multi-storey car park at Heathrow's Terminal 3 on Sunday. Prior to the incident, two women had stolen from them their suitcases upon exiting a parking garage elevator.

A toddler aged three was among the those hurt in the event. Five people went to hospital for treatment and were later released.

Officers detained a 31-year-old man for suspected theft and assault close to the scene. He has since been released under investigation as the investigation proceeds.

Authorities were alerted at approximately 8:10 in the morning GMT after reports came in regarding a number of individuals injured by a noxious substance believed to be pepper spray.

The assault - which authorities stated was isolated and not being treated as an act of terror - resulted in delays to rail services and the partial closure of the main airport tunnel and the Terminal 3 car park for a short time.
